Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I'm the solo developer behind Jargon Japan. Understanding a slang word is one thing. Knowing when to use it is another. Textbooks build a solid foundation, but anime, manga, games, and group chats often use expressions that textbooks leave out. I built Jargon Japan to help Japanese learners understand both the meaning and the social context.

Each card includes:

• Full-color manga artwork that shows the expression in context.

• Plain-English explanations and guidance on when—and with whom—to use it.

• Japanese audio for the word and an example sentence, generated with TTS.

The collection spans everyday expressions, trending slang, and retro favorites from the ’80s and ’90s. Available on iOS with 66 expressions: 36 free cards and 30 additional Premium cards. No account required.

What Japanese expression has left you thinking, “I know the words, but what does this actually mean?” I'd love to hear your examples and feedback on the cards. Thanks for taking a look!
