I’m excited to share Japanese Names, a free tool for generating and exploring natural Japanese names.
The idea behind the project was simple: a Japanese name generator should do more than return a random combination of characters. It should help people understand how the name is written, pronounced, and interpreted.
Japanese Names generates full names from structured surname, reading, and kanji records rather than inventing arbitrary kanji or pronunciations.
Each result includes:
-The name in kanji, hiragana, and romaji
-The meaning and interpretation of the kanji
-Context about the surname
-Japanese and Western name order
-Options to lock the first name or surname and generate new combinations
-Favorites for saving names you like
You can also browse dedicated collections of Japanese girl names, boy names, and surnames, with individual pages explaining their readings, meanings, and background.
I think it can be useful for writers, game developers, language learners, character creators, and anyone curious about Japanese names.
This is an early version, so I’d especially appreciate feedback on the name results, explanations, filtering options, and anything that would make the generator more useful.
