I know because I saw it happen.
My partner's phone was snatched right before my eyes. A woman, posing as a lost tourist from Eastern Europe, asked for help. We were polite. We helped.
Two minutes later… the phone was gone.
It was the latest iPhone—an iPhone 16.
We turned to the police. We hoped for answers. Nothing came.
In a flash, my partner lost everything—chat history, irreplaceable childhood photos, and even access to bank accounts. All gone. Just like that.
Every six minutes, a phone vanishes in London. The police are overwhelmed, the laws are weak. And suddenly, it wasn’t just bad luck. Three more friends lost their phones around the same time.
I became paranoid.
