Hi Product Hunt.
I built Iris because my eyes hurt after every long day at the screen, and every reminder app I tried I ended up ignoring or snoozing until I turned it off.
So Iris is built around one idea: the reminder has to be harder to ignore than it is to obey. Every 20 minutes the screen dims for 20 seconds and you look at something across the room. That is the 20-20-20 rule, and it is the only eye advice that consistently holds up. There is deliberately no skip button on the break itself.
It grew from there. Water reminders, stand-up nudges, posture prompts, wrist relief. All optional, all off by default, because an app that nags you about six things is an app you delete.
A few decisions I made on purpose:
- $35 once. No subscription. It is a small utility that sits in your menu bar and I did not want to charge you monthly rent for a timer.
- Nothing leaves your Mac. No account, no telemetry, no sync.
- It should feel ambient, not like a notification. If you notice the interface, I got it wrong.
This is a Coming Soon page. It is nearly finished and I am working through code signing and payments now. Follow along and you will get a notification the day it is downloadable.
Genuinely want to hear from people who have tried break reminders and abandoned them. What made you turn it off? That is the thing I am most trying to get right.
