I built IO Inventory because my dev machine had slowly turned into a black box, especially since I started coding with AI agents.
Tools like Claude Code and Cursor are great at getting things done, but they also install packages, runtimes, MCP servers, and dependencies along the way. Eventually I realized I had no idea what was actually on my machine anymore.
I also wanted a better way to move to a new laptop: start fresh, but keep a snapshot of the dev setup I actually want to recreate instead of restoring an entire backup.
So I built IO Inventory.
It scans your local dev environment and turns it into a searchable inventory + interactive architecture map. You can track changes with snapshots, compare environments, and manage supported tools.
I think snapshots could also be useful for team onboarding, share a known-good setup and see what a new machine is missing.
Everything runs locally, there’s no product telemetry (except checking for updates on github, which you can opt out of), and it’s MIT-licensed open source.
