Instro is a place to listen to instrumental music without having to think about playlists, artists, or what comes next. It's designed for coding, reading, and focused work, when music should support your attention instead of competing for it. Instro avoids complexity on purpose. There are no playlists to manage, no algorithms pushing novelty, and no pressure to interact. You start listening, and the music stays out of the way.

I’m Carlos, the maker of Instro. I built Instro because I kept running into the same problem: I wanted music while working, but most playlists eventually got in the way. Especially now that so much of my work involves reading, writing, designing, coding, and talking to LLMs, lyrics can become distracting really quickly. Your brain is already processing words all day — then the music adds more words on top. Instro is a simple music app built around focused listening. No lyrics, no endless browsing, just music to help you get into flow and keep momentum. This is an early version, focused on the music experience first. I’d love feedback on the concept, the positioning, and whether this feels useful for how people work now.

Comment highlights

the no-lyrics no-shuffle premise fills a real gap, Spotify's algorithm always wants to sneak in something with words eventually. curious about the music itself though - is it licensed tracks from real composers, royalty-free stock, or AI-generated? that changes both the legal footing long term and whether it still feels good six months in once you've heard the same rotation on loop

Love the focus on staying out of the way. One thing that would make it perfect for me is a sleep timer, since I often play it while falling asleep with headphones on and would love it to fade out and stop on its own after a set time.

Finally something that doesn't try to shuffle in a random pop song every fifteen minutes. Just hit play and the background piano actually stays in the background.

the no-algorithm approach is refreshing, it actually feels designed for the people using it rather than for engagement metrics.

Love the simplicity here, this is exactly the kind of background music experience I want when I'm heads down writing code. One thing that would make it even better for me is a small visual indicator showing the current track and artist somewhere subtle, since I sometimes want to look up a piece after hearing it but have no way to remember what it was.
