We built idphotoby.ai after struggling with something surprisingly frustrating: getting document photos accepted online. Even with modern phones, people still get rejected because of background color, head position, shadows, wrong dimensions, or country-specific requirements.
At first, we thought this was just a simple “background remover” problem. But while building, we realized the real challenge is compliance and trust. Every country and document type has different standards, and users care about one thing: “Will this actually get accepted?”
So we focused heavily on automated validation, country-specific formatting, and making the experience extremely simple — upload a selfie, get a compliant photo in minutes.
The process evolved a lot during development. We started with basic AI image processing, but quickly added layers like biometric checks, document-specific templates, manual QA workflows for edge cases, and continuous feedback loops from rejected/accepted photos. One of the biggest lessons was that reliability matters far more than flashy AI demos in this space.
We’re still improving the system every week, but it’s exciting to see people using it for passports, visas, ID cards, driving licenses, and student documents from all over the world.
