As a kid, housie used to be a staple at most social gatherings, parties and occasions. As an adult, I barely see it being played. Various reasons. So I decided to look back to nostalgia to create Housie Number. Generate housie tickets and call numbers online, free, with no sign up or login. Housie Number replaces paper tickets and number tokens for your housie game.
I host events, experiences and meetups in Mumbai on a weekly basis as the founder of Uhtend - a subscription pass for events. Some of these events include nostalgia driven experiences like Beyblade and Hot Wheels for example.
While taking a long walk in the corridors of nostalgia I found that a lot of us had left housie behind. It went from being a game you would expect to be at every household occasion and gathering to a small note of inefficiency.
I asked people why housie disappeared from their catalogue of fun things to do. Some of the reasons were:
- We don't have the tickets.
- We don't have the board.
- We lost the number tokens.
To those unaware: housie or tambola is similar to bingo. It's played with the same unique enthusiasm all across the world. Though some may see bingo as being reserved for the oldies it's pretty much a conversation starter about luck, near misses and superstitions around one's life.
With Housie Number I have removed the added steps that came from other housie and tambola tools:
- No need to sign up or download an app.
- Tickets created automatically and can be regenerated.
- One person can manage the game without signing in while also playing.
- You can have multiple games without worrying about exhausting paper tickets.
- A Hindi translation option adds inclusivity towards elders of folks who can guide them to use the housie tickets well.
