HomeCostRadar helps homeowners estimate the real cost of running and maintaining a home. Calculate appliance energy costs, estimate electricity usage, build a personalized maintenance plan, and forecast how much to set aside for future repairs. Every estimate shows its assumptions, data source, methodology, and confidence level—so you can understand where the number came from instead of trusting a black-box result.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m Nhan, the solo developer behind HomeCostRadar.
I started building it after noticing that most home-cost tools give you one confident-looking number without explaining what it includes, where the data came from, or how reliable the estimate actually is.
But owning a home involves much more than a mortgage payment. Appliances consume electricity, systems need maintenance, repairs arrive unexpectedly, and many of those costs are difficult to plan for.
HomeCostRadar currently helps homeowners:
⚡ Estimate the cost of running individual appliances
💡 Estimate the energy portion of their electricity bill
🛠 Build a personalized home maintenance plan
🏠 Forecast how much to reserve for future repairs
The part I care about most is transparency.
Every estimate is designed to show its assumptions, methodology, data source, data vintage, and confidence level. When the available data is uncertain, HomeCostRadar shows a range rather than pretending to know an exact number.
It is still an early product, and I’m actively deciding what to improve next.
I’d especially love feedback on:
1. Which home expense is hardest for you to estimate?
2. Are the assumptions and confidence levels easy to understand?
3. What would make you return to HomeCostRadar regularly?
Thanks for checking it out. I’ll be here throughout the launch day to answer questions and learn from your feedback.
Really like that every estimate shows its assumptions and confidence level, it makes the numbers feel trustworthy instead of random. The appliance energy cost breakdown was more detailed than I expected.
The transparency piece is really refreshing, seeing the data source and confidence level right next to each estimate makes it feel way more trustworthy than the usual calculators. Surprised how detailed the maintenance forecast got for an older home.
The transparency around assumptions and confidence levels is genuinely useful, that part sets it apart. One thing that would really help me as a homeowner though: regional price adjustments for parts and labor. A water heater replacement in rural Ohio versus San Francisco is wildly different, and without that local context the repair forecasts will be off for a lot of people.
