HandyXlate
Translate text on Android screens without switching apps
HandyXlate is an Android screen translator for reading without switching apps. Tap the floating bubble to capture a single frame, run OCR on-device, and place translated text back over the screen. It works across apps, images, and manga, with manga-aware reading order, word lookup, pronunciation, and a personal wordbook. Screenshots are not uploaded; only recognized text is sent for translation.
Hi Product Hunt! I built HandyXlate because translating text while reading on Android was too disruptive: copy the text, leave the app, open a translator, and then try to find my place again.
HandyXlate keeps the workflow on the current screen. Tap a floating bubble to capture one frame, run OCR on-device, and place translated blocks over the original content. It is intentionally single-shot rather than always-on, so you choose exactly when
to translate. I paid particular attention to manga, where vertical reading order and text grouping matter.
It also includes word lookup, pronunciation, and a personal wordbook. Screenshots stay on the device; only recognized text is sent for translation.
I’d love your feedback: where would this save you the most time—manga, social apps, websites, or paused videos? What part of the workflow should I improve next?
Thanks for taking a look!
