I built GuitarTunings because I kept running into the same problem: I’d find a song I wanted to play, discover it was in some weird tuning, and then have to manually figure out how to tune my guitar.
The thing that actually started the project was learning John Mayer’s *In Your Atmosphere*. I wanted to tune the whole thing down a semitone to get a little less string tension, but with the tuning being so unusual, the tuners I found online made that surprisingly annoying. I’d have to calculate the notes for every string and create a custom tuning myself.
So I built a tuner where you can take basically any tuning and shift the whole thing up or down by semitones with one click.
I also wanted the tuner itself to be really fast, lightweight and completely ad-free.
And now there’s a growing database of songs and artists with their tunings, so you can go from:
Find the song → see the tuning → shift it if you want → tune your guitar.
