GrowJourn
The choose-your-own-path story where kids write the twist
Your kid brings the idea, like "a kid who's allergic to magic", and GrowJourn builds a short illustrated adventure around it. At any turn they can ignore the two choices and type their own; the story bends to fit. Every scene gets its own painting, and the finished adventure becomes a storybook with a link you can send to grandparents. No ads, no tracking, nor child accounts. First story free, no signup.
Hi PH, I'm Brandon, a dad, and this started as a failure.
I loved those choose-your-own-path style adventure books as a kid in the 80s, so I tried them on my own kids. We didn't make it past the first page.
My son didn't want option A or option B. He had a third idea, a better one, and the book had nothing to say to him. He was annoyed and I was desperate.
GrowJourn fills in that third option, whatever it may be. Your kid gives the seed (the one in the demo is "a kid who's allergic to magic but really wants to be a wizard") and the app builds a short illustrated adventure around it, one painted scene per turn.
When the offered choices aren't good enough, they (or you) type their new idea and the story bends to fit. In the video the kid types "find out that his magic is sneezing," and the story just... takes it. That moment is the whole core of GrowJourn.
Passages are short enough that a 7-year-old will actually read them, which is the sneaky part: you can't pick a choice without reading.
At the end it becomes a storybook with a link you can send to grandparents.
Parent stuff, because it matters to me: no child accounts, no ads, no tracking, and every story is saved so you can read exactly what your kid read. Stories end. No infinite-scrolls, and no streaks.
The first story is free with no signup.
What I'd most like to hear from you:
What is your kid typing when the options don't keep up with their imagination?
That input box is my favorite thing here and I know that my kids' ideas are for their story
is consistently better than mine!
