As AI writes more of my code, I kept losing something git never captured: the why. Git shows what changed. It never shows what I asked the AI for — the prompt, the attempt, the thing I rejected. That intent history was scattered across tool logs or just gone.
So I built Gigai Chronicle. It records your AI-assisted development as a plain-text history inside your git repo — and answers the question git blame can't:
git blame says you wrote the line. chronicle why says what you asked for — and lets you jump the code back to that exact prompt.
The part I care most about: it's local-first and never calls a model. Zero network by default (there's a chronicle doctor command that proves it). Your prompts never leave your machine. It works as a CLI and a VS Code / Cursor / Windsurf extension.
