I'm Sufian, a React Native dev building solo under SufHive.
GifDrop came out of a gap I kept seeing in the GIF converter category: watermarks on free output, subscription walls for basic features, and apps that quietly upload your video to a server. So I built the version I'd actually want to use β everything runs locally, no uploads, no account, no watermark. It works offline because there's nothing to send anywhere.
The interesting design decision was what to leave out. GIF encoding on mobile is CPU-bound with no hardware acceleration, so higher resolutions and frame rates get slow fast. Instead of offering options that would make the app feel sluggish, I capped them deliberately β GifDrop maxes out at 360p/15fps, and that's what keeps conversions in the seconds range.
Constraints turned out to be the feature.

The on-device encoding actually delivers β converted a 10-second clip instantly without uploading anywhere, which feels rare these days. The frame scrubber for trimming is way more precise than what I was using before.

The on-device speed genuinely caught me off guard, especially trimming a clip and getting the size estimate update live. Privacy-first is a nice touch that feels rare here.
