Hi Product Hunt! I’m a technical builder from the pre-AI era, and I’ve always been obsessed with one idea: can software that traditionally lived on the desktop truly move into the browser, without relying on server-side processing?
GIF Master started from a very personal need. I wanted to make a few custom GIF reactions for myself, but most online GIF tools I tried required uploading videos, images, or GIFs to their servers.
That was the dealbreaker for me.
A lot of GIF workflows involve surprisingly private content: personal photos, selfies, family moments, screen recordings, chats, work interfaces, and media that people simply don’t want leaving their device. For something as lightweight as making a GIF, uploading all of that to someone else’s backend never felt right.
So I built GIF Master around one strict principle: 100% browser-side local processing.
No file uploads.
No server-side processing.
No sending private media to a backend.
That’s what makes GIF Master different. Video to GIF, GIF compression, batch compression, countdown GIFs, and screen recording all happen 100% locally in the browser.
And even the final GIF download is local. The file is generated and downloaded directly from your browser’s local memory, not returned from a server.
The idea is simple: privacy shouldn’t be the price you pay for convenience.
More browser-native, privacy-first local tools are already in development, so if there’s a feature or workflow you’d love to see built this way, I’d love to hear it.
How does the batch compression actually work in practice, like do you upload a whole folder at once and pick the target file size for each one or is it a uniform setting across everything?
Does the browser version actually run everything locally or does it upload videos to a server to process the GIFs? Curious how the privacy-friendly part works in practice.
Browser-based and no install was exactly what I needed, the video-to-GIF conversion ran fast and kept the quality decent. Batch compression saved me a real chunk of time on a folder of clips.
Love that the batch compression and screen recorder live in the same workspace as the converter. So many tools force you to bounce between tabs just to trim, optimize, and export a single GIF.
