Ghostman
Keyboard-driven terminal API studio & live webhook inspector
Ghostman is a lightweight, keyboard-driven terminal API studio and live webhook inspector. Key Highlights: • 100% Local-First: Stores collections in plain YAML in your repo. No cloud logins. • Live Webhooks: Press Ctrl+W to catch incoming webhooks on :9090 without ngrok. • Fast & Minimal: Starts in <200ms, uses ~40MB RAM. • Keyboard-First: Fast vim-friendly TUI workflow. Free & open source (MIT).
Like many of you, I got increasingly frustrated with modern API clients like Postman. What used to be a simple HTTP testing utility has turned into a 1GB+ Electron app demanding mandatory cloud accounts, team workspaces, and unnecessary telemetry just to test an endpoint.
On top of that, testing local webhooks (Stripe, GitHub, Discord, etc.) always required spinning up external reverse proxies like ngrok or visiting web mock sites.
So I built Ghostman: a fast, keyboard-first terminal API studio that respects your system and your privacy.
Here is what makes Ghostman different:
1. 100% Local-First: All your collections are stored as plain YAML files (.ghostman/collections.yaml) right inside your project repository. Commit them with Git and share them with your team. Zero accounts, zero tracking.
2. Built-in Webhook Receiver: Press Ctrl+W and Ghostman immediately starts a local listener on port 9090, catching incoming HTTP callbacks and rendering payloads live on screen.
3. Fast & Lightweight: Starts in milliseconds, uses ~40MB RAM, and doesn't freeze your machine.
4. Keyboard-Driven: Complete requests, switch collections, and inspect formatted JSON without ever touching your mouse.
