Hey hunters! We're starting out down a brand new road today, excited to share our plans for bringing ActivityPub to Ghost with you - and hanging out in the comments to answer any questions that come up.
We've been thinking and working on how to create a decentralised network in one form or another for about 8 years (before ActivityPub was a thing) — and I'm excited that we're now finally getting started with it.
I've been using Ghost in Japanese ever since backing it on Kickstarter. I thought the news about introducing ActivityPub was very good. I support the attempt to expand communication on the network.
This is so interesting, I think Ghost is the best platform to sit at the forefront of a truly open web movement. We've seen so many different platforms do a half-baked job of it.
Nice one to you and the team @johnonolan!
So stoked to see this!
Substack makes a big deal about how you can export your subscribers and content but increasingly the value is in social recommendation systems, distribution, and interactions. And lo, Substack is becoming a social network in its own right, having merely used email to bootstrap yet another private network.
We've seen Post News and T2/Pebble fail, meanwhile Threads has embraced federation through ActivityPub and is contributing to the future of the social web.
With Ghost adopting ActivityPub, publishers can take not only their subscribers elsewhere, but can interop with rest of the open social web, of which Mastodon is but one subset.
Will @ProductHunt be next?
Wow great work, do you think payments will start to also go this way with Ghost in the future? As ActivityPub is decentralized, maybe having some decentralized type payments fit into the future
That’s the spirit! 👻 (ghost pun) 😄 Network looks great and will probably open the door to cross-publication collaborations.
So excited for this. I love Ghost and host MarketingJunto.com there. It's such a great platform which will only benefit from Federation!
