Hey folks! Last night, while doom-scrolling through endless Tailwind/shadcn landing pages (you know, the ones with identical "rounded-xl" everywhere), I got hit with 56k modem nostalgia. So remembering the wild days of dot-com pages, I put together this simple tool.
While it started as just a fun project, I realized something interesting: stripping away modern design might actually help you focus on the content. Sure, it looks ridiculous (that's the point), but it's a surprisingly effective way to experience websites without dark patterns and infinite scroll engagement traps.
Plus, sending your Chief Product Officer a GeoCities version of your company's website is a fantastic way to start a conversation about web design diversity?
PS. Big shout out to the creators of Geo-bootstrap library!
I’ve sent all my friends their portfolios with this in it. I love the idea and I’ve been having so much fun with it. Thank you for sharing :)
Congrats on the launch, it's a very funny project and works great on each page I try.
This is awesome! Product Hunt geociti-fied is on a whole 'nother vibe. 😎
Now this is innovation! - also love that this is on April fools. Gonna "rebrand" the company account real quick lol
What a fun idea! I love how this tool brings back the nostalgia of simpler, more straightforward web experiences. Have you found that using this approach has helped you or others reconnect with content in a more focused, meaningful way?
Really nice April Fools’ Day prank. I was expecting it to actually transform the website and remove the design, but instead, it analyses the content and creates something new on its own, that doesn't correspond to the original entirely. Still, it’s funny, well done!
This is such a fun throwback with a clever twist. Stripping things down to dot-com vibes for the sake of focus feels both hilarious and strangely refreshing.
Aha, time to turn my website into a GeoCities masterpiece! Can't wait to see this AI magic in action!
