Gello
Your spare Android phone, reborn as an on-device Discord AI.
Inspired by Google Allo. Allo (RIP, 2016–2019) did one thing that no chat app has quite matched: it put Google Assistant into the group chat itself, as a participant, your friends could @-mention. The assistant wasn't a separate window you opened on the side — it was sitting in the thread with everyone else, answering questions for the whole group at once. Gello is an attempt to bring that feeling back, but with a local Gemma model instead of a Google datacenter on the other end.
Inspired by the old phone in your drawer. Most of us have a previous daily-driver sitting unused in a drawer — a 3-to-5-year-old Android phone with a perfectly good SoC, a real NPU/GPU, a battery, a screen, and a modem already integrated into one enclosure. That device is, accidentally, a fantastic always-on edge-AI box: it's plugged in, it has wifi, it can run a foreground service for weeks, and it's already capable of running a 2 B-class model at usable speed. Gello is built to repurpose that drawer phone into a tiny local AI server for your friends.
The name. Gemma + Allo = Gello.

Who hunted Gello?
Gello was hunted by Mohan Zalake. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
