Hey Product Hunt! I built GBAEmu as a simple, local-first way to play legally owned GBA files on iPhone. The goal is to make the emulator feel approachable: import a .gba file from Files, keep your library organized, save progress anytime, resume automatically, and tune the touch controls for comfortable play. A big focus was keeping the app clear about content ownership. GBAEmu is emulator-only: it does not bundle, host, sell, or distribute games, ROMs, BIOS files, or copyrighted content. Users bring their own legally owned files. I’d love feedback on the runtime controls, library flow, and which quality-of-life features retro handheld players care about most.

How does the save state feature handle different emulator versions, and will my saves carry over if you push updates that change the core?

The touch controls actually feel responsive for a GBA emulator on a phone, and the save state system works instantly without fuss. Nice to see a local-first approach that skips the usual cloud sign-in dance.

finally an emulator that doesnt bury you in ads or force a login. the resume feature picked up right where i left off and touch controls felt surprisingly responsive on my phone

Love that this stays local and respects the whole "bring your own ROMs" thing. One feature I'd kill for is controller support through mapped touch zones, like letting me draw my own custom button layout per game since the default GBA layout gets cramped on newer iPhones. Could really set it apart from other emulators.
