I'm Louise and my partner Scott and I built Gallery+ because of a problem that paying for storage doesn't actually solve: services like Google Photos can still scan and mine your most personal data, and turn that into something they profit from. You're the product even when you're a paying customer.
So we made something that closes that door.
Gallery+ is a backup app for Android that protects what's actually on your phone — photos, videos, and your text messages. Everything gets encrypted on your device before it ever reaches the cloud. You back up to your own Google Drive or Dropbox (more coming), but because it's encrypted locally first, the provider can't read it, scan it, or mine it. They just store an encrypted blob. You keep the keys.
A few things we cared about getting right:
It's your phone's data, not just photos. Photos, videos, and text messages, the stuff that's genuinely hard to replace.
You choose what gets backed up. Pick what matters and leave the rest, so you're not clogging your cloud with things you don't care about.
You hold the keys. Encryption happens on your device. Your cloud provider sees nothing but ciphertext; no scanning, no mining.
Use the storage you already pay for. Your Drive or Dropbox account. No new storage bill, no lock-in.
We're in early access right now and would love your honest feedback, especially on the backup flow and which data types or cloud providers you'd want next.
