I'm Gero, the solo developer behind gainzy.
About a year ago I was paying €6/month for a workout app just to see my own PR history. Not for a coach. Not for a program. Just to access data I had already created myself.
I thought that was wrong. So I spent the last months building the alternative.
gainzy is a fully native SwiftUI app — no cross-platform shortcuts, no cloud backend, no account. Everything lives on your device. I built it because I wanted something that treated analytics as a basic feature, not a premium one.
The full feature list is genuinely free. Apple Watch, Dynamic Island rest timer, volume charts, PR tracking, iCloud backup, CSV export — all of it. I have no intention of monetising this.
A few things I'm especially proud of:
The "last time" feature — every set row shows your previous weight and reps automatically, so you always know what to beat. It's just super practical mid-workout and I use it every single session.
The Dynamic Island rest timer — put your phone down between sets and see the countdown without unlocking. Honestly this started as a gimmick, but seeing it come to fruition was one of the best moments building this.
400+ exercises with muscle diagrams — I wanted a library that's actually complete, not one where you have to add half your exercises manually.
