I’m Alex, the maker behind Forky.
The idea for Forky came after a conversation with an operations director of a restaurant group. He was telling me how a single typo in a menu price cost them thousands of dollars in a single afternoon. A customer spotted a lower price on the digital QR menu, demanded it be honored, and the restaurant had to swallow the loss.
The culprit? The classic operational broken telephone:
The chef adjusts a recipe cost.
Operations approves it but requests a last-minute tweak.
The designer edits the wrong file because there are 5 different drafts lost in an email thread.
Marketing pushes the wrong version to production.
As developers, we solved this problem decades ago using systems like Git. If two people touch the same line of code, we branch, we merge, and we track history. So I asked myself: Why is a restaurant's core revenue driver—its menu—still being managed via chaotic WhatsApp groups and endless PDF drafts?
Managing a restaurant menu isn't a graphic design problem; it's a version control problem.
That’s why I built Forky (https://forky.rest/). Think of it as a hybrid version control architecture specifically tailored for restaurant menus. It connects the business logic of operations with the creative output of marketing and design. It ensures everyone works on a single, authorized "main branch," eliminating human error, saving hours of back-and-forth, and protecting the restaurant's bottom line.
