I was addicted to nicotine for about 10 years.
I started with box mods, moved to Juul, and eventually got to the point where vaping was woven into almost every part of my day. I told myself it helped with stress and focus, but looking back, it was controlling me far more than I wanted to admit.
I spent thousands of dollars over the years chasing a few seconds of relief. My resting heart rate stayed elevated, my anxiety was worse, and I knew I was doing damage to my long-term health.
What made it harder was that I kept it mostly to myself. I was embarrassed by how dependent I had become on something that was supposed to make life easier but was really keeping me stuck.
I tried to quit more times than I can count.
Each time I would feel motivated, make it a few days, convince myself one hit wouldn't matter, and end up right back where I started.
A big challenge was that many of the people around me also vaped, so there wasn't much accountability. At a certain point, I realized that if I wanted to quit for good, I needed structure. Not just willpower for a few days, but a system to track progress, understand cravings, and stay focused on why I started.
That realization led me to build Forge Labs.
I originally built Forge as something for myself — the kind of tool I wish I had when I was struggling to quit. It combines many of the ideas and lessons that have helped me stay nicotine-free.
I'm a little over two months sober now.
Some days are still difficult, but this process has taught me that freedom doesn't come from waiting until things feel easy. It comes from doing the hard thing repeatedly until it becomes part of who you are.
If you're in the middle of trying to quit, keep going. Every craving you resist is proof that you're changing.
