Foregound is a privacy-respecting productivity tool that automatically tracks time across apps and websites. All your data is stored locally and never shared or sold.
I created Foreground out of the desire for a privacy-respecting alternative to other services that automatically track your time across apps and sites, where my data would never be analysed and sold to others. Everything is kept locally, offline, and Foreground only needs an internet connection to check for updates. As co-founder of Hello Code, I've been building in public and making apps for personal tracking for about a decade now! And Foreground optionally integrates with our main product Exist too.
This app is really interesting! With a focus on privacy, Foreground offers a secure solution for tracking time without worrying about personal data being sold. It's perfect for anyone looking to boost productivity without compromising their privacy. Congratulations on the launch! ;)

I have see this tool kindly. time tracking that keeps my privacy intact? That's a huge win for me!
Do you plan to support any linux desktop environments as well? Like Gnome or KDE.
Browser add once are a really smart idea. Now I can easily track time spent on specific tabs without any extra effort. Awesome feature!
Just tried it out, and I'm loving the detailed reports on productivity. The breakdown by hours is super helpful for staying on track throughout the day.
It's amazing how light weight this is compared to other tracking tools. Using only 1 2% CPU is impressive. Definitely makes it easier to keep running in the background.
For users concerned about data privacy, a time tracker that respects privacy and keeps all data local is a valuable solution. @joshsharp
congrats on the launch. any plans for android? that's where I do most of my work 😁
Automatic tracking of my app and website time sounds super helpful for figuring out where my time goes.
Сool idea @joshsharp ! Have you considered expanding this to other operating systems like macOS or Linux? I know a lot of privacy-focused users who would really appreciate that.
Also, how customizable is the reporting? Can users easily generate reports based on specific time ranges or activities for analyzing their productivity?
Ranking apps from core productivity to focused entertainment is such a smart idea! It’ll help me spot my distractions easily.
I really like that my tracking data stays local. It feels good to know my privacy is respected!
Wow such a great idea for making this app. I really appreciate this. Congratulations on the launch.
Hey Josh,
Automatic time tracking across apps and websites sounds like a game-changer!
But how accurate is the tracking when switching between apps quickly or working with multiple tabs?
Does Foreground account for short, rapid switches, or is it designed for more sustained tasks?
Congratulations on the launch of Foreground! It's refreshing to see a privacy-respecting alternative in the productivity space. Keeping data locally and offline is a commendable approach, especially in an era where data exploitation is rampant. I appreciate the transparency and commitment to user privacy.
