FocusGuard
Block distracting sites with mindful breathing pauses
FocusGuard blocks distracting sites with a breathing pause — 45 seconds to decide if you really need to visit. • Breathing block — mindful pause before access • Focus Mode — timed sessions with notifications • Schedule rules — weekday/weekend time ranges • Parental controls with child profiles (Pro) • Nuclear Option — time-lock up to 30 days (Pro) • Stats — block counts, top sites, hourly heatmap Free: 5 rules. Pro: unlimited + parental + time limits + stats.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I'm the maker of FocusGuard, a Chrome extension I built because "just block Twitter" never actually worked for me.
The problem:
Most site blockers either lock you out completely (which breeds resentment) or they're easy to bypass (which defeats the purpose). I wanted something in between — a gentle friction that gives you a moment to decide if you *really* need to visit that site right now.
What FocusGuard does differently:
Instead of instantly blocking the page, FocusGuard can guide you through a 45-second breathing exercise before granting access. Three slow breath cycles is enough time for the dopamine impulse to pass. Most of the time, you just close the tab. When you actually need the site, you've earned access calmly.
Features I'm most proud of:
- Breathing exercise block — 45-second mindful pause instead of a hard wall
- Focus Mode — timed work sessions with a notification when time is up
- Parental controls — separate profiles for each child with time-based schedules (Pro)
- Nuclear Option — time-lock your settings for up to 30 days so you can't undo your own rules (Pro)
- Clean statistics — see which sites distract you most, by hour and day
Where it is today:
FocusGuard is live on the Chrome Web Store. I'm a solo developer building ~18 productivity Chrome extensions under the S-Hub brand. This is one of the tools I actually use every day.
Free plan: up to 5 block rules. Pro: unlimited rules + parental controls + time limits + detailed stats.
What's your go-to distraction and how do you handle it? I'd love to know — it shapes what I build next.
