Professional focus enhancement for macOS. Dim/ blur background apps or highlight your active window with beautiful colored borders. FocusDim helps you maintain concentration by providing subtle visual cues about what's important on your screen.
Hi everyone! I built FocusDim to solve my own problem with desktop distractions and losing focus on the app I'm actually using.
Unlike existing dimming apps, you can toggle between three modes and several additional features:
- Dim Mode: Dims background windows/inactive apps (with solid color or blur effect)
- Border Mode: Highlights active window with colored borders while keeping background normal
- Dim + Border Mode: Combines both effects
- Import/export settings across multiple devices
- No permissions required - works immediately after install
Free features:
- Toggle between dim/border mode
- Basic dimming with solid color
- Basic border functionality
Pro features (originally $4.99, now just $1.99 with 60% discount this week):
- Blur effect for dimming (gaussian blur instead of solid color)
- Custom colors for dim/border
- Blur intensity control
- Animation speed control
- Dimming intensity settings
- Border width customization
- App exclusions - Skip effects for specific apps
- Rounded borders
- Settings import/export
I use it daily on both my MacBook and external monitor setup.
Would love to hear your feedback!
Congrats! I've been using apps like HazeOver for a while and this is a really clever evolution of that concept. For me, highlighting the active window with a border is way more effective than just dimming everything else. The blur is a nice touch, too.
No way, a Mac app that actually helps with visual focus? My eyes get so tired bouncing between windows—this could be a total game changer. Super curious if it works with multiple monitors!
I installed the app from the app store. When I opened it, I don't see any windows or top menu bar icons.
When I click settings, I see a blank page.
I'm on M2 Macbook pro 16 inch. Running Sequoia 15.5
