I built Focus Timer Desk Clock because I was frustrated by how complicated "focus" apps had become.
Most timer apps were packed with features, notifications, streaks, gamification, ads, and subscription prompts. Ironically, the tools that were supposed to help me focus were constantly competing for my attention. At the same time, I couldn't find a simple desk clock app that looked elegant enough to leave on my desk all day.
I wanted something different: a screen that felt calm. A timer that disappeared into the background. No ads. No setup. No account. Just open the app, put the phone on a stand, and start working.
The project started as a personal tool with only a large clock and a timer. As I used it daily, I realized every interaction mattered. Opening menus to adjust brightness or volume broke my concentration, so I replaced them with swipe gestures. Later, I added ambient sounds because I found myself constantly switching between separate timer and sound apps during work sessions.
What surprised me most during development was that removing features often improved the experience more than adding them. The product evolved around a simple principle: every decision should reduce friction and help users return their attention to what they're actually trying to do.
In a world where many apps are designed to keep people on their screens longer, I wanted to build one that helps them look at the screen less.
