Most language apps drill phrases. Real conversations are messier; you stumble, you reach for words you don't have. Fluenscence is built for that. Type any situation and get an AI roleplay. Tap any sentence for translation, ask for grammar explanations, or speak your reply for voice practice. Generated scenarios, no fixed tree. Hints adapt from Beginner to C1. Free to start. Web live; mobile shipping this week.
Hey PH! Solo maker here.
I built Fluenscene because I was tired of language apps that hand you flashcards instead of conversations. You finish a Duolingo streak and still freeze the second a real person asks you something off-script. The gap between drills and real conversation is huge; that's what I wanted to close.
The core mechanic is simple: you type any situation ("ordering coffee," "first day at a new job," "asking the doctor what's wrong"), the AI generates a custom scenario with a character to talk to, and you roleplay. Tap any of the character's sentences for translation, ask for a grammar explanation on the spot, or hit voice mode to speak your reply and hear them respond.
A few things I tried to get right:
- Generated scenarios, not pre-written. You drive the practice, not a fixed tree.
- Hints adapt to level (Beginner to C1). Beginners get heavy scaffolding; advanced learners get only the next correct word as a nudge.
- Voice mode is hands-free. Useful while cooking or commuting.
- The free tier is real; you can practice daily without paying. A fluent subscription unlocks unlimited scenarios + full voice mode.
Two things I'd love feedback on:
1. Does the "type any situation" model click, or does it feel like too much freedom? Some early users wanted curated paths; others loved the openness.
2. Which language are you learning, and which scenarios would you want to practice that current apps can't handle?
I'll be in the comments all day. Happy launch day, everyone, and thanks for taking a look.
