Flix turns finding something to watch into a fast, personalized swipe experience. Users will swipe right to save a title, left to pass, up to reconsider it later, or down to mark it as already watched. Every swipe helps Flix understand the user’s preferred genres, ratings, and types of content so the recommendation feed improves over time. Overall the feeds will be tailor to the user fairly quickly

My spouse and I struggle almost every day to decide what movie or show to watch. We can spend more time scrolling through streaming services than actually watching something. Even when we use apps designed to track movies or recommend content, they often feel clunky. We find their recommendations rarely reflect our individual tastes, and they do not make it easy to find something we both want to watch. I had already been using Codex extensively for another project when I saw the OpenAI Build Week announcement. I wanted to find out how far I could take an idea using Codex as my primary development partner. I had read about “one-shot” development, so I started by describing the complete product I wanted. Codex produced a working MVP from that first implementation prompt. From there, I continued directing the product through conversation. Within roughly 25ish product prompts, Flix had evolved from an idea into a refined, connected application.

Who hunted Flix?

Flix was hunted by Justin Cardwell. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
