I built this because I kept seeing people frustrated with their progress even though they were training hard and eating right. The problem was they were tracking the wrong metric. BMI has no idea how much of your weight is muscle and how much is fat so it was giving completely misleading feedback to anyone who lifts seriously.
FFMI fixes this by only measuring lean mass relative to height. Once I started tracking it myself my whole perspective on progress changed. I wanted to make a clean free tool that anyone could use without needing to understand the math behind it.
