Every family has stories that never get written down, photos that disappear in old phones, and history that dies with a generation. FamilyClan is your family's private space to build multi-generational trees, preserve photos and videos, share stories in a family-only feed, and write time-locked journals that unlock for future generations who haven't been born yet.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built FamilyClan after realising there was no truly private space for families to stay connected - not just chat, but actually preserve things.
Photos get uploaded to Instagram because there's nowhere better to save them. Stories never get written down. Family trees sit unfinished. We're all sharing our most personal moments on platforms built for strangers, because nothing better existed for family.
FamilyClan fixes that. One private app where you can build your family tree across generations, upload photos and videos into folders per person, and write journals - including time-locked entries that unlock on a future date or automatically if you go inactive.
No ads. No algorithms. No strangers. Just your family.
Would love to hear from anyone who's tried to solve this for their own family - what worked, what didn't. Happy to answer any questions 🙏
Really meaningful idea. Preserving family history in a structured way like this feels powerful. How do you think about long-term storage and making sure memories stay accessible decades from now?
My dad passed away a few years ago.
After he died, I went back through our WhatsApp messages - texts, photos, voice notes. Hearing his voice again almost made it feel like he was still around.
But those few backups on Google Drive are all I have. And I can't stop thinking about everything I lost.
The time he told me about the mistakes he made in life - and I never asked him to say more. When he talked about buying his first bicycle in the late 80s. When he stood on stage motivating people to do the right thing. I was there for all of it, and I never once hit record.
A year before he died, he said he wanted to organise a family reunion so me and my siblings could finally meet all his 7 brothers (3 of them, we know already), their wives, their children. People I've never met. That reunion never happened.
That's why I built FamilyClan.
It's a private app where families build their genealogy together, share living memories and preserved photos, videos, voice notes, stories and preserve them for generations. So no one has to lose what I lost.
Somewhere in there is a video of your nephew's first steps. A photo from your mum's 60th birthday. A voice note from a relative who passed away.
Buried under 40,000 memes, good morning messages, and links nobody asked for.
We've accidentally turned our most precious family moments into noise. And when WhatsApp shuts down, changes its policy, or you lose your phone - it's all gone.
The problem isn't that families don't want to preserve memories. It's that nothing was built specifically for that purpose. So we use whatever's available and what's available wasn't designed for us.
What's the one family memory you'd be devastated to lose?
I will go first - there's a 14 second voice note of my gran humming a song she used to sing.
It lives on WhatsApp. I'm terrified every time I upgrade my phone.
As a long term user of Ancestry (inc. DNA) to research my Family History and WhatsApp to keep in touch daily with my immediate family I'm excited to look at this.
