I built FairFlow because I kept hitting the same wall: I dictate maybe an hour a month, and every good dictation tool wanted $10/month for it.
First I tried running Whisper locally on my Mac. It didn't hold up for daily use: accents and mixed-language input were rough. So I wired up my own pipeline: Whisper for transcription, then a formatting pass that fixes punctuation, strips the "um, so, basically", and pulls out action items. I've been living on it for 4 months.x
Why not just use the built-in dictation? If you're dropping one sentence into a text field, honestly, built-in is fine. FairFlow is for the case where you talk for five minutes straight and want usable text at the end – structured, stored, searchable, not a wall of raw words in whatever field you were standing in.
Also, I just looove the Action button dictation feature – I got a thought, hit Action button, record it right away, and then it is stored in my notes, searchable, or I can paste it anywhere on my iPhone. Such a nice use case for me!
On pricing: no subscription. A 200-minute pack is $4.99 and the minutes never expire. 15 free minutes to try it, no card needed.
It launched couple of weeks ago and I've been fixing it in public since – a stranger on Threads wrote me a brutal 15-point teardown last week and I've shipped most of the fixes. That was fun!
