I'm new here, I hope you'll welcome me.
I built Facty because of a small, annoying habit: I'd hear a confident number in a
YouTube video, think "that can't be right", and then never check it. And the times I
did check, it took ten minutes of digging for one sentence.
Facty does that digging while the video plays. It reads the captions, pulls out the
claims that are actually checkable, runs a real web search for each one, and shows a
verdict over the player at the moment the sentence is said. The full breakdown -
every claim with its timecode, verdict and links - builds up in a side panel.
Three things I deliberately did differently:
→ Five verdict levels, not true/false. Most of what people argue about lives in
"mostly true" and "misleading". A binary label would hide exactly the interesting part.
→ Sources, or nothing. A verdict is only issued when independent sources back it. If
they don't exist, Facty says "unverifiable" instead of guessing. Every card links out
so you can check the checker.
→ Opinions and predictions get flagged, not judged. Fact-checking a joke or a forecast is how these tools lose credibility.
It's free for 30 minutes of video a month, no card. Paid plans are purely more volume - every feature is on every plan, including free.
Two honest caveats: it needs YouTube captions (auto-generated ones are fine), and it's Chromium-only for now - Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera. Firefox is next, maybe Safari too.
I'd love to know where it gets things wrong. Run it on a video you already know well -
that's the fastest way to catch a bad verdict, and those are exactly the ones I want to
see. I'm here all day.
