F-Droid 2.0 is the biggest rebuild of the official Android client in a decade. It brings a modern interface, much better discovery and search, smoother installs, and automatic updates while keeping the store free of tracking and engagement tricks.
F-Droid 2.0 is the official client, rebuilt after a looooong wait.
The app was rewritten in Kotlin and Compose. The main navigation is now Discover, Search, and My Apps. Search looks through descriptions, categories, and translations, not just names, which helps once the repo is thousands of apps deep.
The installer changed too. It uses Android’s session installer and pre-approval API, so installs are smoother and background updates work without the old Privileged Extension.
It is still F-Droid. FOSS apps, no tracking, and no attempt to keep you hanging around the store!
