Extra Time 2026
A retro-newspaper companion for the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Extra Time is a nostalgia-soaked webapp for following the 2026 World Cup, styled like an old-school football broadsheet. π΄ Live scores & auto-updating schedule & standings π§ 100s daily trivia questions, from Uruguay 1930 to today π Deep archive: tactical breakdowns of classic World Cups (Italy '90, Brazil '70, Total Football) Built because I wanted World Cup coverage that felt like the newspaper pullouts I grew up reading. Dark green ink, vintage typography, zero clutter.
Hey Product Hunt! maker here. I've been obsessive about World Cup history since I was a kid, and with 2026 kicking off today across the US, Mexico, and Canada, I wanted a way to follow it that felt like the old newspaper pullouts my dad used to save.
The site pulls live ESPN data, has 100s of trivia questions I wrote myself (everything from "which keeper scored a hat-trick?" to "what was the highest-attendance match in WC history?"), and a growing archive of tactical deep-dives into classic tournaments.
It's a side project, built with Next.js, deployed on Netlify, no ads, no accounts. Just a labor of love.
I'd love feedback on:
β The trivia categories (too easy? too obscure?)
β What other archive content you'd want to see
β Any mobile layout jank (I'm still tweaking responsive breakpoints)
Thanks for checking it out. Hope it makes the tournament a little more fun to follow. β½
