Expand is a spatial board for macOS. Place text, images, files, and shapes on an open canvas, then nest boards you can actually go into. Double-click the board to add something. Right-click to choose text, images, files, or shapes. The plus in the toolbar adds from the top of the window. Drag to arrange. Open a board to work inside it, then use the title-bar breadcrumbs to go back up.

Top comment

I have worked on this project for a long time. It is a board that creates space for ideas, where you can use as many elements and text pieces as you like, helping you organize everything in your mind. I searched for a tool that would let me collect my thoughts in a structured way—something better than an iPad or notepad. This is the result: a tool that helps you place and track all your thoughts in an open, flexible way. You can arrange it however you need, making every word your own. There are no limits or instructions; it’s just you and the board.

Comment highlights

A lot of people hesitate to commit to a new canvas tool because they worry about long-term access to their work: what’s your philosophy on data ownership (local-first vs cloud), export/backup, and future-proofing—and how did that influence your technical and product tradeoffs?

Native macOS thinking tools still feel better than most web canvases. Limitless boards for expanding ideas is a clean, useful wedge. Nice ship.

the double-click-to-add plus breadcrumb navigation is a clean way to avoid the usual infinite-canvas problem of losing where you are. does search work across nested boards too, or only within whichever board you currently have open? that'd be the thing I'd want once a project has more than a few levels of nesting.

In the case of nested boards, can you go beyond a certain point before the complexity of keeping context becomes difficult?
Btw, Congratulations @sgroiga on the Launch of @Expand Board for macOS ✌️🚀
