EnviousWispr
A free, fully private, on-device alternative to WisprFlow.
Hold a hotkey, speak, release. Parakeet transcribes on your Mac by default, or WhisperKit auto-detects 99 languages. Then choose polish: Apple Intelligence on-device with a tuned AFM dual-mode router, local Ollama, or your own OpenAI or Gemini key. Your Words learns your fixes and keeps names, acronyms, and vocab packs intact. Median hotkey to paste is 1.51s with polish, 0.43s without. Cloud defaults are private: OpenAI store=false, Gemini logging off. Free, no account, Apple Silicon.
Hi Product Hunt, Saurabh here, founder of Envious Labs.
By day I am an enterprise CSM at Qualtrics. I write constantly, use AI every day, and realized typing was my bottleneck.
I am not a traditional developer. EnviousWispr is a passion project I built solo with AI tooling after work. I kept going to test a bigger idea: a non-engineer founder using AI as the engineering team can compete with funded teams.
The app is simple: hold a hotkey, speak, release, and polished text appears in any app. Transcription runs locally on Apple Silicon with Parakeet by default, or WhisperKit for 99-language auto-detection. Polish is separate: Apple Intelligence on macOS 26+, local Ollama, or your own OpenAI or Gemini key.
The v2.0.1 piece I am most proud of is Apple Intelligence polish. It stays on-device. Apple Intelligence has real limits as a polish engine, which is why most apps route polish to the cloud. Six months of work later, a dual-mode router squeezes every ounce of capability out of AFM and makes it viable for both casual notes and technical dictation.
Custom words is the other piece worth calling out. The bigger Your Words redesign is coming soon. What shipped today: I analyzed a million English words to map how Parakeet fumbles them, then built alias-based fuzzy matching on top. It is the strongest custom-words behavior I have seen in a dictation app that does not lean on a cloud LLM.
Production median over the last 30 days is 1.51s from hotkey to paste with Apple Intelligence polish, and 0.43s without polish. Privacy defaults are conservative: audio stays local, OpenAI uses store=false, Gemini logging is off, crash reports are scrubbed, transcript permissions are tighter, and the code is public on GitHub under BSL 1.1.
EnviousWispr is not pretending to have every feature today. It is Mac-only, with no cross-platform support yet, no per-app tones, and no snippets. The focus is speed, privacy by architecture, and a free path for doctors, nurses, lawyers, and anyone handling sensitive work.
This is just the beginning. I would value the PH community's eyes on the product and the early-stage company around it. Your support and feedback will help shape what comes next.
Thank you for taking a look. I will be here all day.
