Hi Product Hunt. I make Mac apps on my own as AppsByMo, and Emojist first launched here on 24 July. It lives in the menu bar: type a word, emoji appear above your cursor, and a number key puts one in. It has had five updates since then, and the latest, 1.0.6 on 30 September, adds something it could not do before: GIFs from the keyboard. That is why I am back. What changed since July: New • GIFs. Type :: and a word, like ::lol, or ::no-way for two words, and pick one of nine with 1 to 9 or a click. Apps that take images, like Messages, Mail and Slack, get the GIF itself. A plain text field gets its link. • A 7-day free trial with every feature. No account, no card. Better picks • The emoji people use most come first: kiss leads with 😘, love with ❤️, car with 🚗. • Keywords of two or more words, like heart hands or close call, now work in the bar, including ones you add yourself. • Pick your skin tone once and every emoji that has tones uses it. Out of your way • No emoji suggestions while you type a web address or a search. You can switch that off in Settings, Apps. • Numbers, prices and times like 3.5, 10:30 or 50% type normally. Words like 10am still get emoji. • The bar finds your cursor in many more apps, including browsers and Slack, and a new option remembers where you put it in each app window. Fixes • Your licence activates whatever your Mac is called, and a failed activation shows the real reason. • Phrases keep every emoji you put in them, including repeats and keycaps like 1️⃣. • Picking with 1 to 9 works on AZERTY keyboards. • Adding or removing emoji in selected text can no longer paste something you copied earlier. Why: a lot of September's fixes came from one buyer who emailed me over two days. His licence would not activate because of his Mac's name, phrases were dropping repeated emoji, and two-word keywords vanished when he pressed space. All three were fixed in 1.0.4 and 1.0.5, out on 12 and 13 September. Privacy, plainly: Emojist never stores what you type. GIF search is off until you switch it on, and then only the word after :: goes to KLIPY, the GIF service, with no account, user ID or location. Emojist also checks your licence with Lemon Squeezy and checks for updates. The About page lists each connection. Cost: $6.99 once, with free updates, on up to 3 Macs. Try it free for 7 days first. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. One ask: use it for a day in the app you type in most, then tell me where the bar lands in the wrong place, or a word that finds the wrong emoji or GIF. I read every comment, and support@appsbymo.app works too.
