Twenty-five years in industrial design. I was the consultant writing the proposal, the agency owner reviewing the contract, and sometimes the client on the other side wondering what I had actually agreed to. I lived every version of this problem.
The frustration was never really about time, although yes, contracts and proposals eat hours you should be billing. The real problem was trust. Did the client read it? Did they understand the scope? When something went sideways three months in, did anyone actually know what was agreed?
