An interactive macroeconomic simulator that visualizes how U.S. fiscal and monetary policy levers shape GDP growth, the federal deficit, and the Gini coefficient over a 10-year horizon. Built for debaters, students, and policy researchers.
Hey everyone,
My name is Saras. I am a High School Student as well as a Research Assistant. I am thrilled to introduce you all to EconLever today.
The Challenge: Economics can sometimes seem mysterious ("a black box"). When we hear that there are tax cuts or an interest-rate hike on the news, however, finding a tool that will allow you to visualize the 10-year trade-off of growth, deficit and inequality as interactively as possible as well as academically, is quite difficult.
EconLever Solution: I created EconLever to solve that problem. It has been calibrated to the main stream macro-economic literature (Mertens & Ravn; Ramey; et al.) and was made for students, debaters and policy advocates who wish to get past the theoretical aspects and start modeling the real world.
Main Features:
• Interactive Policy Lever: Real time adjustment of fiscal and monetary policy.
• Ready-to-Cite Brief: Your results can be exported into a neat PDF for research use or as a presentation brief for debate rounds.
• Distributional Analysis: How does each of your policy decisions affect the Gini coefficient and inequality?
This is completely independent project that started from my desire to contribute to fiscal policy and civic technology. I look forward to hearing your feedback on user interface, the accuracy of engine calibration and any additional features that may further enhance the value of this tool to the classroom.
I am available throughout the day if you have any questions!
