Hi Product Hunt 👋
I built Éclat Tab because every new tab page I tried either buried me in widgets or quietly shipped my browsing data somewhere. I wanted the opposite: something calm to look at, genuinely useful, that follows me between computers without an account or a server of anyone's.
So it does a few things, properly:
• Clock, live weather, tasks, quick notes
• Your Chrome bookmarks and recently closed tabs, one click away
• Quick links you can drag around iPhone-style
• A photo background out of the box, plus a gallery, light/dark mode
• An optional AI assistant — bring your own OpenAI/Anthropic/Gemini key, it goes straight from your browser to the provider
And what it deliberately does NOT do: no account, no analytics, no servers of mine, and it does not touch your default search engine. Your data stays on your computer, and if you have Chrome sync on, it travels through your own Chrome account — never through anything of mine.
Fun part: it took 5 rejections from the Chrome Web Store to get published. Undeclared permission, a screenshot showing something that wasn't reproducible on a fresh install, a "single purpose" violation because my search bar was too clever... Each rejection made it simpler, and honestly better. Happy to go into detail if anyone's shipping their first extension — that review process is a genuinely useful teacher.
