Spot learning differences early, in 15 min of playful games
Tablet-first bilingual screening & adaptive practice platform for dyslexia, dysgraphia, and neurodevelopmental triage in primary schoolchildren. DALI-aligned, 100% client-side privacy.
This project is deeply personal to me because I am dyslexic myself.
Growing up with a learning difference, you quickly realize how isolating it is. When you struggle to read or write at the same pace as your peers, people don't see a different way of processing information; they just misunderstand you. Far too many bright children struggle completely alone, lose their confidence, and end up being called "lazy" or "stupid" by people who simply don't understand what's happening.
Traditional psychoeducational evaluations often cost over $2,000, have 6 to 12 month waiting lists, and rarely happen before third or fourth grade. By then, the emotional damage is already done.
I am still a beginner developer, and this is by far the biggest thing I have ever built. But I wanted to see if I could use modern web technologies to turn early screening into 15 minutes of gentle, playful games on a tablet, so children can get support before they ever have to feel inadequate.
How it works
Dyutipath includes 5 mini-games that screen for different developmental markers:
Motor Kinematics (Rune Realm): Captures drawing strokes on canvas to measure velocity variations and letter mirror-reversals (dysgraphia markers).
Phonological Blending (Sound Forest): Uses the Web Speech API to test phoneme blending in both English and Hindi (Devanagari script).
Processing Speed (Memory Mountains): Measures Rapid Automatic Naming (RAN) pacing across a 25-item visual grid.
Word Decoding (Story Castle): Tests reading fluency using pronounceable pseudo-words.
Gaze Tracking (Vision Valley): Uses MediaPipe FaceMesh in the browser to detect reading fixations and backward eye skips.
All 5 games feed into a Doctor Hub designed to give teachers, pediatricians, and parents standardized triage scores and printable summaries.
My non-negotiable rule: 100% Client-Side Privacy
Because this is built for children, zero camera frames, canvas drawings, or audio recordings ever leave the device. Everything is processed directly in-memory inside the browser.
An honest note on limitations
I want to be completely open: Dyutipath is a first-pass triage helper, not a replacement for a certified clinical psychologist.
Because I am tracking gaze through standard 720p webcams instead of expensive medical hardware, lighting and head movements create noise. My current scoring rules are set to high sensitivity so at-risk kids aren't missed, which means fast readers might sometimes get a "Recommend Follow-up" note.
As I continue learning to code, my next goal is to build an in-browser calibration step to adapt to different lighting and camera angles.
