DUCK YOU started as a dumb challenge: how quickly could I build a playable multiplayer browser game with AI?
The first version was live in less than an hour. Two players, a duck, a hunter, some grass, and a shotgun. It worked—and it was way too much fun to stop there.
So we kept going.
A few days later it had Ranked matchmaking, Glicko-2 ratings, mobile play, leaderboards, achievements, chat, live spectating, persistent stats, an earned Feather economy, cosmetics, and a frankly unreasonable amount of infrastructure for a game about shooting your friend while they hide in grass.
My favorite part is that the systems got serious, but the game didn't.
