Dropwire
Free P2P file transfer. No account, end-to-end encrypted.
Dropwire: free, open-source peer-to-peer file transfer for Windows, Mac & Linux. Send files directly, end-to-end encrypted, no account, no servers. A privacy-first WeTransfer alternative that works across the internet.
Hi everyone, I'm Muhamad J. Akoum, the maker of Dropwire.
I built it because sending a file to someone is still weirdly annoying. The usual tools make you upload your file to a company's servers, sign up for an account, or hit a size cap and pay to get past it. Your file ends up sitting on someone else's machine and you just have to trust them with it.
Dropwire skips that. It sends files straight from your device to theirs, end-to-end encrypted, with no account and no servers holding your files. If your connection drops, the transfer resumes instead of starting over. It's free and open source, on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
It's built on iroh for the peer-to-peer layer. Would love your feedback, and happy to answer anything about how it works under the hood.
Sending a big file usually means uploading it to someone's cloud or hitting a free-tier limit. I built Dropwire so it doesn't.
It sends any file straight from one device to another. End-to-end encrypted, no account, no server in the middle, no size limit.
Think AirDrop, but for Windows, Mac and Linux, and it works across the internet instead of only the same Wi-Fi.
Free and open source (MIT). You can use it today.
