Grant location once and leave Driftlog closed: it records the countries, regions and cities you pass through, with dates, and rebuilds trips from before you installed it using the GPS in your photo library. No account, no server, no subscription.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Aki, and I built this alone from Alberta.

I kept meaning to keep a travel diary and never did. Every app I tried wanted a check-in, or a sentence, or just for me to remember to open it. So my map stayed empty, and an empty map is depressing, so I stopped opening it at all.

Driftlog does none of that. You give it "Always" location once and then forget it exists. It runs on significant-location-change, a coarse, cheap signal iOS is already computing, so it records the countries, regions and cities you actually passed through, with dates, at almost no battery cost.

The part I'm happier about: it reads the location already sitting in your photo library and rebuilds the trips you took before you ever heard of the app. That is the whole reason people keep it past week one. If you want to see that part without installing anything, it also runs as a free web page that uploads nothing: https://counter.getdriftlog.com

Things it deliberately does not do, so nobody is disappointed: it records places, not routes, so it will never show the road you drove. No trip planning, no social feed. iOS 17+ for now. It needs "Always" location, which is a real thing to ask for, and if that's a dealbreaker you should use a manual tracker like been or Visited instead. They're good.

One more honest bit: I don't claim "nothing ever leaves your phone". A coordinate goes out to be turned into a place name. That's the one request the app makes, and it's in the app's own privacy screen.

$6.99, once. No subscription, no ads, no account, no server. Happy to answer anything, including the boring parts: battery, what significant-location-change actually costs you, and the bugs my own trip to California turned up.

Who hunted Driftlog?

Driftlog was hunted by Akira Takashima. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
