Hi PH Community – I wanted a simple journal app that helps me reflect and prioritizes privacy – so I built one.

Please share feedback!

The “help you reflect” part really stood out to me. I journal daily, but when emotions are running high it can be hard to summarise and reflect clearly. Curious whether it could help split reflections into a few categories.

Really interesting project. Congrats on launching it here.

I don't do journalling myself ( maybe your app changes this haha ), but I have a colleague that does this a lot. I'm sharing the app with him.

Can the user share his goals with the app?

I love this habit ( from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People ):
"Begin With the End in Mind"

If the app know my goals ( the intended end of a journey ), it could be contrasting it against my notes, and sharing reflections that could help me get there.

Congrats on your launch! Looks nice, but I have Android, if you an alternative for Android users or a way or how to do that, let me know

Interesting project. I’d add to the description that it’s launched in a PRIVATE or ISOLATED cloud. That would make it clearer for non-technical users.

congrats on the launch! I prefer handwriting journaling, but sometimes I can write down the ideas I get on the go or while travelling. so, Dottie can actually become a savior. thank you, will definitely try it out!

been seeing more and more local first hyper personal AI app and Dottie is for sure one of the most useful one I guess!

Congrats on the launch! 🚀
As a dev building offline-first tools myself, I love seeing more apps prioritizing on-device privacy. Journals are personal, so keeping data local makes total sense. Great work!

Congratulations! .I like the privacy first positioning. For transparency, could you explain how “on-device” applies when cloud LLM APIs are used, and whether there’s a local-only mode planned?

Privacy-first is exactly right for journaling - the whole point is to be honest with yourself, which is hard to do if you're worried about data leaking. Smart to use Apple Intelligence for the on-device option. Have you noticed any difference in how people journal when they know it's truly private vs cloud-based?

The on-device privacy angle is really smart. I've seen so many people hesitant to use AI journaling because they don't want their thoughts in the cloud. Building with Cursor too, nice. What made you choose Apple Intelligence as the default LLM option?

I’ve always been a bit hesitant to put my deepest thoughts into an AI journal, but the fact that this stores everything on-device is a huge relief. Using Apple Intelligence to keep personal data strictly local is a smart move for maximum privacy. It’s the first time I feel like I can actually reflect honestly without worrying about my private life ending up in some cloud database or being used for training.

Congrats on the launch
Quick question , after today's Product Hunt traffic , how are you planning to build early user reviews and long-term credibility

Congrats on the launch, Dottie team! Love the focus on privacy in journaling. As someone building in the storytelling space (LifeScript), I think giving people a safe space to reflect is huge. Upvoted!

congrats on the launch! do we know if Apple Intelligence will always be on device? It may call models on the cloud some day?
I’m a big fan of the minimalist approach! How does it handle messy or longer dictations? I love the idea of just speaking my mind and having an AI clean it up for me. Is it already available for all languages, or is it optimized for English only? Congrats on the launch!

All the best with the launch! Curious to know how AI is helping here? Is it with respect to some patterns, moods?
