DOT Audio Recorder
Record anything your Mac plays, with key, tempo and chords
Press Cmd-R while anything plays on your Mac (a YouTube video, Apple Music, a preset demo) and DOT keeps it: trimmed, filed in a library, with its key, tempo and chords. Drag clips into your DAW, or export the chords as MIDI. DOT records the Mac's own sound through macOS, so there's no BlackHole or Loopback to set up. Free to try, then $49 once. No subscription.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm Kai, a musician. I made DOT for something that kept bugging me: I'd hear something good on my Mac (a few seconds of a video, a sound in a preset demo, a chord change in a friend's session) and have no quick way to keep it. By the time I'd set up BlackHole and opened a DAW, the moment was gone.
So DOT is one key. Press Cmd-R and it records whatever your Mac is playing, trims it and files it in a library. If it's music, it shows the key, tempo and chords, and you can drag the clip straight into your DAW or export the chords as MIDI.
It's free to try (10 recordings and 3 chord MIDI exports), then $49 once. No subscription, no account.
I'd love to hear what you'd record first, and what you'd want DOT to do next.
Congrats on the launch! I downloaded the app, and I'm excited to start using it for my own music promotion 🙌
