I've been investing in dividend stocks for about 2 years and kept running into this annoying problem: I'd have cash ready to invest, check my watchlist, and realize I just missed the ex-dividend date by a few days. Or I'd buy right before the ex-date thinking I'm getting the dividend, only to watch the stock drop by that exact amount the next day.
After maintaining a messy Excel sheet for 18 months that I never actually updated, I got fed up and built this over a weekend. It just tracks ex-dividend dates automatically and emails me a week before each one. That's basically it.
I've been using it for 3 months and it's already saved me from a couple of bad timing decisions. Figured I'd put it out there in case anyone else has the same problem.
Main question I'm trying to figure out: is actively tracking ex-dates even worth it, or should investors just ignore them entirely and focus on entry price? I genuinely don't know if I'm solving a real problem or just overthinking my own process.
Would love honest feedback on whether this is actually useful or if I built something nobody needs.
