/dev/null started as a live stream from the JetBrains office. On Oct 15, 2026, Nuno Maduro, Brent Roose, Matthieu Napoli, and Pauline Vos built a social network for web developers from scratch in 48 hours, in the open. Sign in with GitHub, share code snippets, like, reply, etc, etc! Hundreds of you sent PRs. Laravel’s Taylor Otwell stopped by mid-stream (“Laravel forever”), and Vercel’s Guillermo Rauch called it “really well done.” Thank you for watching, sharing, and roasting us.
We went viral (Hacker News, X, etc.) using a format most marketing teams wouldn’t touch, precisely because it’s so uncomfortable: raw, unfiltered, no script, just us, locked in a 48-hour live stream showing every bit of it.
Had really good times discussing on the platform, watch it go live through livestream and contributing.
Being able to be part of it is really engaging!
Are there plans to monetize or have ads on this platform? How would you make money from this platform and how would you keep it up and running? But anyway it's a great platform. I really love using it!
finally, a dedicated platform for a developer instead of getting distracted by other things on other platforms
What was the hardest part of staying live for full 48 hours ? keeping the energy up or dealing with the unexpected problems ?
Building a whole social network live in 48 hours with community PRs is wild. Huge props to the team for pulling it off!
Love that it’s open source. Now that the 48 hour sprint is over, how do you plan to keep it going? Will the four of you maintain it, or will it become fully community-driven?
To be honest, I have been more active on /dev/null than on X for the past two days. It's raw and community is growing rapidly.
My one tiny PR got merged on the livestream, and @nunomaduro 's reaction to it was priceless! I saved the link with the timestamp of his reaction. Haha! https://youtu.be/uHhhNffD40U?t=8210
Big props to Nuno and the team! I've been here since day one, and it really feels like a new home for devs. It feels like we're all part of something together, and that we're all contributing, even if it's not to the code itself. It's a really great feeling.
@/dev/null How do you plan to keep the developer community active launch and what features are coming next
@nunomaduro It looks amazing! I haven't watched the stream, but signed up as soon as it was available after the stream. Looking forward to seeing this thing grow 🚀
Building a whole social network in 48 hours while streaming the entire process is crazy :D What was the biggest challenge you faced during those two days?
Shipping a whole social network live in 48 hours from the JetBrains office is the kind of thing that would have broken any team that did not enjoy each other, and GitHub sign in plus snippets is all a dev feed really needs.
If it will stay active after a few months, then it's really cool. Also without bots.

Who hunted /dev/null?
/dev/null was hunted by nunomaduro. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community. See the full all-time top hunters leaderboard to discover who is shaping the Product Hunt ecosystem.

Wild 48 hours. Still processing it, to be honest.

People don’t fall in love with a brand. They fall in love with the humans behind it.
